Creatures of Habit: How to Form Self-Care Habits That Stick

You have an appointment with your physician, who tells you that your blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol, and weight are all going in the wrong direction. He/she recommends you eat better, exercise more, and reduce your stress levels.

It sounds easy enough, but when you look up a month later, you realize that nothing has changed. We have a saying, “Change is hard.” In fact, at times it can seem downright impossible!

I hear dozens of times a week, “I know what to do, but I’m just not doing it.” We’ve been led to think that knowledge is power. But it’s really the ability to make lasting lifestyle improvements that’s power because, as Anatole France eloquently states:

“It is by acts and not by ideas that people live.” --Anatole France

In this workshop, Jason Gootman will talk you through the seven evidence-based keys to lasting behavior improvement and positive habit formation, to help go from knowing what to do and having good intentions, to making self-care a lifestyle that helps you live your best life.

Jason will also go over the common pitfalls people encounter when forming self-care habits. This will help you avoid them and know what to do when you slip. This is important because slipping is part of the process and how you respond to it is critical.

Jason won’t make change easy for you, but he’ll help you shift it from seemingly impossible to quite doable. How does that sound?

In Preparation for this Program: Please come to this session with a habit in mind that you’d like to form in the coming months.

After this session participants will be:

● Prepared to identify common roadblocks that will impact their ability to execute a sustainable habit.

● Empowered to respond to distractions and roadblocks that impact behavioral improvement plans.

ATD Capability Model:  This presentation supports capabilities in all three areas: Impacting Organizational Capability, Building Personal Capability, and Developing Professional Capability.
